About project
GEORG BIZET’S (1838 – 1875 ) famous opera was inspired by identical novel written by French writer PROSPER MERIMEE (1803 – 1870 ). The story itself describes beautiful and passionate CARMEN and naive DON JOSE, but in this novel it has more or less subsidiary meaning as it is part of the historical and ethnical telling about the SPANISH GIPSIES’S life and habits.
The storyteller DON JOSE is waiting for his execution. Gloomy atmosphere of the prison together with the thoughts of a convict to death, inspired VIT MICKA for composing this PIECE, which would probably be not worthy of this title, if it would miss some motives from the BIZET’S masterpiece. In 2004 ONDREJ LEBR gave a world premiere of this piece and in 2009 he recorded it for the CZECH RADIO. Also he took charge of the first edition’s revision.
